Physical Health Resources

Regular physical exercise helps to maintain both healthy bodies and healthy minds. Research has shown that in addition to the obvious physical effects of regular exercise such as weight control and improved stamina, exercise can also help battle stress, anxiety and depression.

MSU offers a variety of recreational facilities and programs to meet student and employees needs.

The Joe Frank Sanderson Center has become one of the most popular recreation areas on campus. The Center is accessible to persons with disabilities and offers: 2 Gymnasia, 1/8-mile Jogging Track, 8 Racquetball Courts, 500,000 gallon indoor swimming pool, Rec Room with table tennis, Large Outdoor Sunning Deck, Strength and Aerobic Conditioning Room, Climbing Wall, 3 Aerobics/Dance Studios, 1 Spinning Studio, Food Service Area, Conference and Training Rooms, and Locker Rooms.

Additional Facilities Other facilities include the outdoor RecPlex, Chadwick Lake for fishing, Sawyer Tennis Courts, Disc Golf Course, and MSU Golf Course. The office of Recreational Sports is housed in the Joe Frank Sanderson Center.

Mississippi State University has one of the most active Intramural Sports programs in the state, with a total participation count exceeding 28,000 each year. There are a wide variety of Intramural Sports offered which are open to the entire university community (students, faculty, and staff).
